Great meals have great beginnings, and salads are a wonderful way to start a meal. Some places in the Finger Lakes region do a great job with their salad or salad bar offerings so it's nice to have a list of the restaurants that do. Here are our innkeeper recommendations on the best restaurant for a salad or salad bar in the Finger Lakes.

Manetti's Restaurant

Best salad bar has to be Manetti's on 5&20 in Canandaigua. ~ Gary Ross - Sutherland House B&B

We recommend the salad bar at Manetti's in Canandaigua. There is a large selection of salad items, very fresh & cold with many toppings and a nice selection of salad dressings. They even have some home-made pizza on their salad bar. ~ Robin & Michael Grentus - A Wolfpack B&B

Manetti's famous salad bar, open 7 days a week and located at 20 Muar Street; between Lakeshore Drive and Eastern Boulevard in Canandaigua, New York.   Along with their salad bar they offer steaks, seafood, chicken, veal & pasta. ~ Al and Nancy - Gorham House B&B

Our favorite soup / salad bar is at Manettis' on route 5 & 20 in Canandaigua. All very fresh offerings along with an added bonus, their own freshly baked pizza. ~ Jaynee and Guy Straw - Inn On the Main

Pleasant Valley Inn - 1 mile South of Hammondsport serves a wonderful mixed greens salad with a Mediterranean Olive Infused Dressing.  Carrying the restaurant's quaint theme, MaryAnn, the head chef, bakes all kinds of different breads, including fresh Italian, European rolls and occasionally even Banana Nut bread for folks to enjoy with their lovely salads. ~ Terry - Keuka Overlook Bed and Breakfast

Emile's Restaurant - has a fabulous salad bar. In addition to the standard green salad items (always fresh) and accompaniments, one can always select from a number of  specialty salads - and the variety changes each week - so it is never boring. If you are looking for more than salad, you can be assured of fabulous Italian entrees as well. Emile's is located on the corner of 5 & 20, and E. Big Johnson's Sports Bar - Has an impressive house salad that is included with all entrees. The veggies are fresh, chunky, and always overflowing out of the bowl (don't worry, they put a large plate under it). The atmosphere is very relaxed, casual and pretty comical. Located in Hector on the East side of Seneca Lake. ~ Steve and Kathy Wirt - Wine Country Cabins Bed and Breakfast

Henry B's - definitely has the best salads. The dressings are light and house-made, and the ingredients are the highest quality. Located in Seneca Falls at the North end of Cayuga Lake. ~ Judy & Ralph - Barrister's Bed and Breakfast

Ports Cafe - on Route 14, 3 miles south of Geneva, offers a 'winter night salad' with mixed greens, apples, spiced walnuts, cranraisins, red onions, crumbled gorgonzola with a raspberry vinaigrette that is absolutely wonderful. The salad, together with a glass of a fine Finger Lakes wine, is a great start to what will surely be a great meal. ~ Donna - Yale Manor Bed and Breakfast

Abigail's - on Rt.5 & 20 between Waterloo and Seneca Falls has by far the best salad bar around. There's tossed salad with all the fixings, home made soup, their special meatballs, pasta, spicy 3 bean salad, delicious Bar-B-Q chicken and just about everything else you can think of. Fisher's Station - A wonderful place to go for a really good fresh and tasteful salad is the Fisher's Station on Fisher Rd, Fishers, NY. ~ Eileen - Springdale Farm B&B

Lasca's Restaurant - is my choice.  Remarkable food, presentation, and prices. Located on Rt 5 in Auburn.  Worth the drive. ~ Dorothy-Yorke - Red House Country Inn

Wegmans in Canandaigua - has the best Cesear Salad. Mushrooms, bacon, chicken or shrimp if you like, fresh lettuce and just the right amount of dressing. Enjoy. ~ Sheryl Mordini - The Acorn Inn
