The best ice cream shop or icecream stand in the Finger Lakes

When the weather becomes warmer and the evening sun paints great colors across the sky, it's time to think "ice cream." Fortunately the Finger Lakes are dotted with some great icecream stands. Here our innkeepers share their thoughts on where to find the best finger lakes icecream shop or ice cream stand.

Cayuga Lake Creamery

If you like homemade ice cream, and who doesn't, the Cayuga Lake Creamery has a treat for you! On our first visit my husband was moaning that it was too far from Geneva, but after pigging out on 3 different flavors, he decided it probably was a good thing it wasn't too near us or he'd be putting on way too many pounds. Their ice cream is heavenly, with many unique flavors and they use, for some, whatever fruit is in season. The owners are a lovely couple who will be happy to tell you how they make their product. Guests come back raving about The Creamery and we made the lovely drive down Rt 89 more than once last summer and look forward to their opening each spring. ~ Glenda Nash - Gentle Giants Bed and Breakfast

Their ice cream is excellent! There is a nice deck to relax on, too. Located on Rt 89 on the West side of Cayuga Lake in Interlaken. ~ Judith and Ralph - Barrister's Bed and Breakfast

Muar House Café - is my favorite ice cream shop. They make their own ice cream which can be enjoyed on their deck overlooking the lake. In the summer months, you can dock your boat right in front and pop in for a tasty gelato or other snack. Located on the North end of Canandaigua Lake on Lake Shore Dr. ~ Sheryl Mordini - 1795 Acorn Inn B&B

Crooked Lake Ice Cream Company - It's an old fashion Ice Cream Parlor on the Village Square in Hammondsport, at the South end of Keuka Lake.  ~ Al and Nancy - Gorham House B&B

Mac's Dairy Bar and Mini Golf - It's a little A-frame, with a Miniature Golf course.  They have great sundaes, malts and milk shakes, but they change the flavors of the ice cream for cones every couple weeks.  Sometimes they are fruit sherbets and sometimes just seasonal ice cream like pumpkin or grape, but they always offer to twist the fruit or seasonal ice cream with vanilla.  Once we asked how come their ice cream was so darn good, and the owners told us it was because they had 10% butter fat in their ice cream.  Apparently others only target 6-8%!!! , located about 2 miles south of the village of Penn Yan on State Rt 14A. ~ Terry - Keuka Overlook B&B

Cross Roads Ice Cream - The BEST ice-cream stand possibly in the whole wide world is the one in Dresden. They're extremely polite & pleasant, they have more flavors that one could want; they serve Upstate New York ice cream....and, in Spring - one can sit outside with this magnificent view and see goldfinches flying all about.  What more could a person want in life? Located at the corner of Rt 14 and 54 in Dresden on the West side of Seneca Lake ~ Cristina and Fernando  - The Farr Inn

Shark Ice Cream - They bought out the old owners and changed the name. Located on Rt. 5 & 20 in Bloomfield. ~ Robin & Michael Grentus - A Wolfpack Bed and Breakfast

Peppy's Ice Cream Stand - It has delicious ice cream and best of all, they carry no sugar-added, too! Located on Rts 5&20 going East from Geneva (next to Emile's Restaurant). ~ Shirley Camp - LaFayette Bed & Breakfast

The Village Ice Cream Shop - A cute little stand in front of an old church makes a great setting in the quaint village of Lodi. They have a large selection of ice cream with generous portions and all arrangements of sundaes, shakes, sprinkles and cones. Ice cream is best when it's close at hand. ~ Steve and Kathy Wirt - Wine Country Cabins B&B

Seneca Farms - They make the ice cream on site and always serve up a very generous portion - a double scoop in a waffle cone makes a great lunch or dinner! Go inside or use the drive-up window. Located on Route 54A in Penn Yan at the Northeast tip of Keuka Lake. ~ Susan & Burney - Los Gatos Bed & Breakfast
